Sealite Expands Australian Production Plant
Phase 2 of Sealite’s new manufacturing facility is now complete with the expanded rotational-moulding division in full production.
The expansion builds on the new facility in Somerville, Australia, and features three dedicated divisions to house four rotational moulding machines, raw materials storage, and finished goods.
The primary purpose of the rotational moulding equipment is to design and produce cost-effective navigation buoys for ports and harbours around the world.
The equipment allows Sealite to produce the full range of navaids in-house, greatly reducing end-user costs, and shortening response times to meet customer demand.
Customers will benefit from shortened lead times, and greater production efficiencies and ability in project customisation.
In July 2007, Sealite took delivery of its latest closed-oven moulding machine – the largest of the 4 now installed onsite. The machine represents the latest advancements in rotational-moulding, and is fully automated to mould any 1-piece plastic product up to 15 feet in diameter. The closed-oven system and twin shuttles allow Sealite to greatly increase efficiencies in buoy production.
Originally scheduled for construction in 2008, phase 2 of the plant was brought forward 18 months to meet strong worldwide demand for Sealite products.
Sales Director Chris Procter commented, ‘the cost savings realised in this initiative are being passed directly onto our customers, and each of our resellers have now been issued with a re-structured buoy price list - which we expect will make them very competitive in the marketplace’.
