Sealite and a group of local land owners are proposing the development of a new $540 million high-amenity innovation campus on Bungower Road near Somerville that has the potential to create up to 1,500 jobs on the Mornington Peninsula and generate at least $1.2 billion in economic value for the region and Victorian economy.
The proposal will be of regional significance, unique to the Mornington Peninsula region, and will provide new community infrastructure, open spaces and active recreation facilities for surrounding residents.
Science, technology and environmental sustainability will be a focus with substantial use of solar power, recycled water, and electric car charging points.
Sealite is the global leader in the design and manufacture of marine and aviation aids to navigation equipment with manufacturing and office locations in Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as distributors servicing over 100 countries. The company is making great strides across the globe, and will be the first tenant of Mornington Peninsula Technology Business Park.
The selected site is currently zoned Special Use Port Related, but was identified as surplus to the Port of Hastings’ needs in their 2018 strategy document. It has since been identified as Regionally Significant Industrial Land under the Melbourne Industrial and Commercial Land Use Plan.
The proposal is undertaking community consultation with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council from the 22nd June to 3rd August 2020, and we welcome your feedback on this exciting innovation precinct that will deliver substantial economic and community benefits.
